If you’re planning a move using one of our mobile storage units – here are a few tips that could help things run smoothly:
- Book your Storage Depot container well in advance of your move date.
- Start your packing well before the move date.
- Pack essential items for day to day life (toiletries, clothes etc) in boxes and add them to your Storage Depot container last, so they are easily accessible when unpacking.
- Take extra care when packing fragile items such as glass and china. Boxes can be packed out with polystyrene or bubble wrap.
- Liquids and flammable or dangerous items should be shipped separately. Spillage would risk damaging your other items.
- Heavy items should be packed in smaller boxes to keep the weight down. Solid items such as books should be stacked at the bottom.
- Keep in mind the weight restrictions of the moving container.
- Try to keep the weight distribution of your boxes spread evenly around the container.
- Use straps or ropes to secure large items to prevent them from moving around during the trip.
- Try to keep tabs on the weight of your items to avoid overloading.
- Labeling boxes by room name or owner’s name can save time unpacking at your destination.
- Put all items not to be shipped in the container to one side so the loading process is as simple as possible.
- Empty and defrost your refrigerator and freezer the day before the move.
- Contact Storage Depot 2-3 days before the move to double check arrangements and confirm timings. Make sure you leave a contact number for the move day.
- Don’t forget to check all rooms and cupboards for items you might have left behind.
