Storage Depot’s 10ft new build container is a solid option when space is tight, but you still need a secure, weatherproof unit. Built in corten steel and fitted with lockbox security, it keeps your gear protected without taking up the room a larger container would.

These are new-build units that have made one trip from the factory into New Zealand. They can carry the odd scuff or light dent from that journey, but the structure is sound and certified for five years from manufacture.

How much room do I need on site for delivery?
A hiab needs clear overhead access and enough space to swing the container into position, generally a driveway or yard with no low branches, wires, or tight gate turns. If access is limited, let us know when enquiring, and we’ll advise what’s workable.

Does the ground need to be prepared before the container arrives?
A flat, firm surface such as concrete, compacted gravel, or level ground works well. Soft or uneven ground can cause the container to settle unevenly over time, so it’s worth levelling the site beforehand if you can.

Will the corten steel rust in coastal or humid areas?
Corten steel forms a protective oxide layer that slows rust far more effectively than standard steel, which is why it holds up well outdoors long-term. In salt-heavy coastal air, it still helps to keep doors sealed when not in use and rinse off salt buildup occasionally.

What’s the actual difference between a new build and a cargo-worthy container?
New build means the unit has made one trip from the factory, so it may have minor cosmetic marks but is structurally as new. Cargo-worthy units have been in service longer and inspected to confirm they’re still sound, which usually makes them a lower-cost option if a few more marks don’t bother you.

Can I hire one first before deciding whether to buy?

Can the container be modified after purchase with insulation, shelving, or extra vents?
